The Commissioner of Finance in Osun State, Dr. Wale Bolorunduro, has said that political office holders in the state are contributing 10 per cent of their salaries to augment the income of the state government.
The commissioner, who said this at a press conference in Osogbo on Friday evening, added that the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola inherited this practice but it had continued with it to assist the government in the area of provision of welfare service to the people of the state.
Bolorunduro said that the state was losing an average of N2bn of its allocation from the Federation Account due to the steady decline in the amount accruing to the state.
He stated that despite that salaries and pensions had risen and that revenue coming to the state had drastically reduced, the administration was still paying workers and was embarking on massive infrastructural development.
He assured workers that the administration would not reduce workers’ salaries and would not sack any of them.
The commissioner added that the government would re-engineer its finances, saying it would focus on the welfare of the people and scale down on new projects.
He said, “We are minimising new projects and focusing on existing ones and the welfare of the people. We will cut down on travels by political office holders. We are losing an average of N2bn every month due to the shortfall in allocation.
“Political office holders are contributing 10 per cent of their salaries every month to assist the government.”
