Ogun cops kill two robbers in a shootout

Policemen attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad of Ogun State Command on Monday engaged suspected armed robbers in a shootout for about 20 minutes.

It was learnt that the gun battle happened at Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, explained that SARS men acted on a tip-off.

He said, “They (policemen) flagged down the robbers in a Honda Accord car at a stop and search point at Itori about 2.20pm. The robbers opened fire on the policemen prompting the team to respond with fire for fire.

“The shootout led to the death of two of the six suspected robbers, while others fled with bullet wounds.”

The PPRO said items recovered from the robbers were two pump action guns, 30 live cartridges, charms and the operational vehicle (Honda Accord) which had no number plate.

Adejobi added, “The command therefore appeals to the general public, particularly medical practitioners, to be on the lookout for the injured fleeing robbers in case they come in contact with them.”
