There are no plans to make Aero a national carrier, according to the Federal Government, saying the only national airline being planned for Nigeria is the 'Nigeria One' which is in the pipeline.
A source at Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) said that it was not the responsibility of AMCON to decide for Nigeria which airline would be a national carrier.
He said, "AMCON does not decide who will be the national carrier."
But Aero as presently constituted has a new chairman, managing director and board and is largely controlled by AMCON.
AMCON had about 18 months ago acquired 60 percent equity stake in the embattled airline due to its massive debts to banks especially the defunct Oceanic Bank Plc.
The Ibru family that originally owned the carrier still has 40 percent stake in the entire airline.
