Nigeria Plane Crash: LASUTH Obtains DNA Of Relatives For Identification Of Burnt Corpses; Analysis To Take Place Abroad

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Saturday obtained specimens of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) from relatives of victims burnt beyond recognition during the ill-fated Associated Airline crashed on Thursday in Lagos shortly after its take-off.
Thirteen of the passengers died in the crash, and their remains were deposited in the morgue at LASUTH on Thursday. Pathologists carried out autopsies on the dead victims on Friday.
A source in the hospital told Saharareporters that DNA swabs were taken today from relatives of the bodies that were burnt and as a result, could not be physically identified.
The source said the bodies would now be flown abroad for the DNA analysis.
The source suggested that the process would take about three weeks to complete since it could not be conducted anywhere in Nigeria due to lack of required facilities.
The victims were among passengers of a chartered Associated Airline Embrear 120 airplane carrying the corpse of former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Agagu that crashed two minutes after take-off at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Thursday.
The Akure bound flight crashed killed at least thirteen of the persons on board with 8 others injured.
Among the dead victims were Ondo State commissioner for tourism and son of a Nigerian politician, Feyi Falae, CEO of MIC funerals,  Mr. Tunji Okusanya as well as his son, Tunji Okusanya Jnr.
The flight captain and cabin crew also perished in the crash.
Feyi Agagu, the first son of the deceased governor survived the crash.
Regardless of the fatal crash, body of Olusegun Agagu was taken to Ondo State for eventual burial Friday.
