Islam "Abhors Killing Of Innocent Souls" – Sokoto Sultan

The Sokoto Sultanate Council, traditional rulers, as well as the generality of the Muslims have dissociated themselves from despicable acts of violence in the country, said the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III.

The Sultan spoke when he received the former head of state, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd), who paid him a courtesy call.

"Islam abhors the killing of any innocent souls without following the due legal processes," Abubakar noted. "We are always committed to the growth and development of Islamic religion, but in line with its teachings and law.

The Sultan urged his fellow Muslims to coexist peacefully with their Christian brethren, rather than attempt to kill them. He even called on Muslims to encourage non-believers to join the religion "by their good conduct and strict adherence to the Islamic law."

The Sultan and Mr. Abubakar commended each other for promoting peace, unity and understanding between Muslims and Christians both in Nigeria and on the global scale.

They stressed the need for dialogue to resolve problems in Nigeria, despite religious, cultural, and ethnic differences.

Abubakar was in Sokoto to inaugurate the state university. He commended Governor Aliyu Wamakko for transforming the state.
