Ekiti laments fund paucity

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation in Ekiti State, Tayo Ekundayo, said on Friday that paucity of funds was a major challenge to achieving developmental agenda of the state government.

Ekundayo spoke during a press conference to mark the third anniversary of the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration in the state.

The commissioner, however, said shortage of resources would not deter the administration from sustaining its eight-point agenda.

He said, “Our main challenge in the state is paucity of funds. We are number 35 on the revenue allocation list from the federation account, leaving behind only Ebonyi State.

“We have not got more than N2.5bn as monthly subvention from the federation account since this government came on board. When we came, we met Internally Generated Revenue mark of N109m but we have raised the bar to N600m. We have been able to get more capital project executed as a result of the support we are getting from international donors agencies.

“We are a positive-thinking administration. Rather than bemoaning our situation, we are thinking creatively of how to surmount it.

He listed activities marking the third anniversary celebration to include inauguration of projects, distribution of medical equipment and ambulances, distribution of cheques to FADAMA farmers, inauguration of the Iyemero Irrigation Project and a rally at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti.

Others are grant-in-aid to community development associations, the state House of Assembly lecture and showcasing of Ekiti Homes Agenda in the three senatorial districts of the state.
