Three More Governors Prepare to Quit Jonathan’s PDP for Atiku’s ‘New PDP’
Information reaching Abusidiqu.com indicates that the Goodluck Jonathan led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party may soon lose more of its members to the Atiku led faction of the party as three of its governors are set to move to the ‘New PDP’, a source said.
Although the president may have recorded some remarkable success in the just concluded special Convention of the party held in Abuja with his ability to have his loyalist elected into th vacant positions of the party’ National Working Committee, NWC, the unexpected side attraction of the said convention where former vice president Atiku Abubakar and seven governors including Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state staged a walk out from the convention venue is definitely going to deal a fatal blow to the Jonathan’s PDP, especially in the desire of the president to run for a second term.
Atiku Abubakar and the seven governors have formed what they described as the ‘New PDP’ for the sole purpose of saving the party from imminent collapse in the hands of the Bamanga Tukur led leadership of the party.
It was gathered that prior to the walk out of the governors, many of the aggrieved PDP elected officials were already in talks with the seven governors but are said to be fearful of retributive actions by the President should they not succeed with the faction of PDP. With the ‘New PDP’ now making some inroads into reclaiming the party from Bamanga Tukur and his gang, it is left to be seen how much the Jonathan camp will be able to keep its members. However, three of the governors whose identities were not released but are speculated to comprise of two northern governors (Kogi and Gombe) and possibly a south eastern governor (Enugu) are presently in talks with the new factions and are ready to make their announcement to dump Jonathan’s PDP soon.
This is coming after at last seven more governors who remained after the initial seven staged a walk out were said to have left the venue of the conventions before it was concluded and headed to the new PDP faction to commensurate with the other seven governors, thus swelling the rank of the ‘New PDP’ faction to fourteen governors.

Aside the three governors whom a source said expressed interest to dump Jonathan’s PDP, the crack in the party will also see many Senators and member of the House of Representatives defecting to APC, PDM and or other parties”. Admittedly, the source conceded that the new faction expects for the bold move exhibited by the Governors to trigger the onset of mass desertion of the Jonathan led party.
Asked if the sudden breakaway from the party by Atiku Abubakar and the seven Governors had anything to do with Atiku’s presidential aspirations, the source said the breakup had nothing to do with Atiku’s aspirations. He stated that Atiku has dropped the quest to become the President of Nigeria.
In his words, “This party is in the hands of three people, and they are doing what they wish, Atiku is a democrat, he is always fighting so that there should be a free and Democratic Party where every eligible Nigerian PDP member can vote and be voted for. The seven governors want a fearless leader and a democrat to guide them; he [Atiku] is not doing that because of his ambition. He is not interested any more. He fought Third Term, today GEJ, is enjoying being in power, so why can’t them be patriots? Atiku is one of the founders of PDP and biggest financier of this party today. But it has been High jacked, where is Solomon Lar, where is Dr. Alex Ekwueme, where is Gusau, IBB and host of others, their opinions are no longer respected”.
