Police arrest traffic officers for ‘causing’ road accident

The police in Kano state have arrested officers of the state Roads Traffic Agency (KAROTA) for allegedly causing motor accident in which one person died.
The local traffic officers were said to be chasing an alleged traffic offender along Madiguri Road near Mariri Rehabilitation Centre in the outskirt of Kano metropolis, when the incident occurred.
Three other occupants of the vehicle were badly injured in the crash, it was learnt.
The traffic officials forced the commercial bus driver out of the road, as a result the vehicle carrying eight passengers somersaulted.
Witnesses told our correspondents that one of the passengers died on the spot, while three others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the arrest, Kano state Police Public Relation Officer, ASP
Magaji Musa Majiya, said the management of KAROTA had handed over four of their men to them over the incident. He said police had commenced full investigations into the matter.
All efforts to get the managing director of KAROTA, Alhaji Muhammad Gambo Diggol, failed as he did not pick calls or answer text message to his mobile phone.
