ANAMBRA 2013: Just Like PDP, APGA Comes Up With Two Candidates

One week after Victor Umeh led-faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) elected Chief Wiilie Obiano as the party's flag bearer for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, the Maxi Okwu faction conducted another primary at Awka on Monday, September 2.

The faction has elected Dr. Chike Obidigbo as its flag bearer for the upcoming ballot.

Okwu disclosed to journalists in Enugu after the party's special congress, that 450 delegates participated in the exercise that produced Obidigbo by voting with show of hands, as he was a sole aspirant in the race. He added that he had the confidence Obidigbo would win the Anambra governorship election.

"Obidigbo will take over the mantle from Governor Peter Obi. It is my honour to present the flag to him to fly it high", he said.

The emergence of Obidigbo came one week after Chief Wiilie Obiano was selected on August 26 as the party's flag bearer by Chief Victor Umeh led-faction of APGA.

Earlier, Chief Chris Eze, Chairman of the Screening Committee, said that the party had come out with a most qualified and well known candidate.

Chief Sunday Obasaha, Officer in-charge of the exercise, had called for nomination, and Mr. Victor Ndu from Ward 11 Onitsha North nominated Obidigbo and seconded by Mr. Joseph Umeze from Ward 1 Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Addressing journalists in Enugu, Obidigbo said that APGA was one indivisible political party. He also used this opportunity to commend current Governor Obi for the good job he had done to lift Anambra state to enviable height.

It will be reminded, that while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been struggling to come up with its candidate for November 16 governorship election in Anambra state, the Labour Party has chose Mr. Ifeanyi Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah as its candidate on Wednesday, August 28.
