Fire in Ogun secretariat
An electricity spark from an air conditioner in one of the rooms in the Economic Planning Office on Monday led to a fire incident in the Ogun State Secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
A statement from the state commissioner for Information, Yusuph Olaniyonu, added that the fire damaged the affected air conditioner and a desktop computer before officials of the Ogun State Fire Service put it out, preventing it from spreading to other offices in the complex.
The statement read in part, “Head of Service, Mrs Modupe Adekunle, while leading Governor Ibikunle Amosun to inspect the affected office, said the officials using the office reacted very quickly after noticing smoke coming from the air conditioner.”
The governor ordered the Head of Service to ensure strict compliance with monthly fire drills in all offices of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state.
Amosun said the exercise would enable all workers to familiarise themselves with the use of the fire extinguishers which the government had purchased, and how to take appropriate preventive measures when faced with emergency situations.
He said, “God has been kind to Ogun State as it rarely experiences fire incidents. So we should be vigilant and constantly get ready to act positively in case of emergency.”
