Equatorial Guinea offered me four times my present salary, Nigeria’s Coach Keshi says
Keshi says he will work as the Super Eagles coach if the NFF’s conditions are right.
The Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, said on Wednesday that money is never his deciding factor pertaining to his job as a coach.
Keshi said he was offered four times his present salary to join Equatorial Guinea yet opted to stay in Nigeria.
“Equatorial Guinea offered me four times what Nigeria is paying me, if it is about money, I would have gone to them, money is never an issue for money,” Keshi who is currently on a monthly salary of N5m, stated.
Keshi, who was speaking on varying issues at a media parley in Lagos, said he is presently not sure if he will continue in his position as Nigeria national team Head Coach after the World Cup as only the ’right conditions’ will see him remain.
Already, South Africa and some Middle East countries are said to be interested in the coach, but he insists he will continue with the Super Eagles depending on the working conditions of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
“It depends on what I see after the event (World Cup), if the conditions are right, I will continue my job,” Keshi said.
“The end of the World Cup will bring an end to a cycle and both myself and the NFF will sit down and discuss. I am a professional, and I have a family to feed so I need to keep working.
“However, if the situation is otherwise, and we don’t agree, I may reconsider. I will not take my decision based on sentiments, he added.
Keshi and the NFF have been involved in a series of wrangling over many issues, one of which is players’ selection.
After leading Nigeria to victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, Keshi allegedly handed his resignation letter and only made a U-turn after the intervention of erstwhile Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abudulahi.
