CBN building fire did not destroy records- Spokesperson

Fire gutted the first floor of the CBN building in Lagos.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has stated that the fire which broke out at the organisation’s Lagos Office on Tuesday evening has not affected the bank’s records.
Fire broke out at the organisation’s Lagos Office (first floor) around 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday. There are speculations that the fire, which started after the close of work, was sparked by a power upsurge in the branch supporting office located on the first floor of the building.
The Central Bank, in a statement, said the fire was put out by a combined fire fighting team from the Central Bank and other financial institutions.
“We wish to assure our numerous stakeholders that the records of the bank are intact as the bank has effective backup of all its records, as part of our disaster recovery infrastructure,” the statement, signed by Isaac Okoroafor, the Director, Corporate Communications Department, said.
