A student of the Kwara State School of Health Technology, Offa, was yesterday arraigned by an Ilorin Magistrate Court for allegedly posting the photograph of a student, who was gang-raped on the Internet.
The state Police Command had last week arrested three suspects who allegedly connived with three others who are at large to gang-rape the female colleague.
The victim was admitted at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) where she is reportedly responding to treatment.
But Aluko Opeyemi, 23, who was instructed to look after her in the hospital, was arraigned for allegedly posting her picture on the internet.
According to the police, instead of the accused to take care of her, he took her photograph and posted it on the internet.
The police added that their investigation revealed that the accused intentionally took the picture of the victim and posted it on the internet by using ‘2GO’ with the intention to tarnish the reputation of the victim.
Police prosecutor, Corporal Abideen Odehinde, objected to the bail of the accused on the grounds that it will frustrate on-going police investigation into the case, adding that the accused might not realize the gravity of the offence he committed if admitted to bail.
But defence counsel, Jubril Hussein, who held brief for Omotosho Gobir, told the court to discountenance the argument of the prosecution and grant his client bail.
In her ruling, Magistrate Mercy Feyisara Abikoye granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum, noting that the offence is ordinarily bailable
The case was later adjourned to March 25, 2014.
