Probe alleged withdrawal of soldiers from FGC -Civil servants
The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has condemned the murder of 43 students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe State by Boko Haram Islamic sect with a demand that government should probe the report by a foreign media that security operatives, posted to keep surveillance on the school, were withdrawn shortly before the sect attacked the school.
While insisting that the sect had a different agenda not known to majority of Nigerians, the association, which is an an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, appealed to the sect to sheathe their swords and embrace peace in the interest of the country.
A statement on Wednesday by the Secretary-General of ASCSN, Mr. Alade Lawal, expressed shock that the insurgents invaded FGC Buni Yadi, Yobe State, on Tuesday, where they murdered 43 innocent students and several others in cold blood.
He said, “This dastardly act has sent shock waves to all nooks and crannies of the country and to other parts of the world as there is no rational thinking that can explain this wanton destruction of lives of defenseless students.
“It is inhuman for the Boko Haram militants to raid the school premises at 2am, when the students were asleep and set their hostels ablaze while those who tried to escape were gunned down or caught and had their throats slashed.”
The ASCSN urged the Federal Government to “set up a high-powered inquiry into the circumstances that led to the mass murder of the students in order to clear the allegation by a popular foreign television station, which has told the world that security details posted to keep surveillance on the school were withdrawn shortly before the Boko Haram insurgents overran the college.”
According to Lawal, Nigerians cannot understand the type of grievance that will drive the so-called religious bigots to indulge in bloodletting in the name of religion.
The ASCSN wondered what verse or chapter of the Holy Quran approves the killing of fellow human beings in the name of religion.
“The Boko Haram sect surely has a different agenda not known to majority of Nigerians. We are even wondering whether they are real Nigerians or outsiders hired by special interest group to unleash terror on law-abiding citizens of this country for selfish reasons,” the association stated.
