JIGAWA BY-ELECTION: POLITICIAN HELD AS 53 SUSPECTS JUMP BAIL

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Jigawa State, Alhaji Garba Soja, has been sent to prison for failure to produce 53 suspects arrested in connection with the violence that erupted in Sankara village during the House of Assembly by election in the state.
Soja signed the N50m bond as surety for the suspects before they were released to him on bail.
The suspects were arrested during the state House of Assembly by-election in Ringim local government of the state on Saturday, where the PDP candidate was declared winner.
Soja who was in court alone admitted that he could not bring the suspects to court because he does not have their individual contacts.
“I do not have their cell phones numbers but I will bring them, they are all from Jigawa State,” he said
The Chief Magistrate, Tijjani Garba Ringim, said Soja would be remanded due to his inability to produce the 53 suspects arrested by the police in Sankara over the assault inflicted on some APC members.
The Magistrate said the offence committed was contrary to section 167 of the Penal Code.
