Abuja to import 60,000 dustbins worth N1.1 billion

The dustbins may be made compulsory for residents.
The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) said on Saturday that it would import 60, 000 waste bins to mitigate indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the Nigerian capital.
The Acting Director of the board, Aishat Adebayo, said this when she monitored the Abuja monthly environmental sanitation.
Mrs. Adebayo said that each of the refuse bins would cost N18, 000, giving a total of N1.08 billion.
“We are bringing in 60,000 waste bins for residents and we want each flat to buy one. We know why we insist that residents should buy from us; each of our bins contains 240 litres which is the most acceptable standard.
“I also urged you to protect your bins against theft because some people go about stealing them, and you know that they are your assets, and therefore, you must protect them,” she said.
The AEPB moved the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mobile Courts to four districts, namely Gwarimpa, Asokoro, Wuse and Garki.
The acting director said the coming of the court was the last resort to ensure that residents complied with sanitation rules and regulations.
The Magistrate of Gwarimpa Mobile Court, Jubril Kutigi, said the court was a court of summary trial.
Mr. Kutigi said that the impact of the court was the same to every conventional court.
