Policemen from the FCT Police Command have arrested a man suspected to be an arms dealer while on a routine stop and search exercise.
According to a police source, the suspect was arrested at Dagba village around Area 1, Garki, Abuja.
The source further added that the suspect, who was arrested inside his car, was asked to come down for questioning and search.
During the course of the search, a 705mm pistol with three life ammunitions was found in the car for which he could not provide sufficient explanation.
The police source stated that the 28-year old suspect, who lives in a popular estate in Abuja, was taken to his house for identification where other guns were found.
The source said the suspect had instructed a man, who came out from the house in Hausa language to hide the other guns not knowing that one of the officers understands the language.
“The police man informed other detectives that the guy is trying to hide the remaining arms. It was then that our men went inside the house and in his room, two other fire arms were found,” the source hinted.
Reacting, FCT police public relations officer, Hyelhira Altine Daniel, confirmed the arrest.
“ A Lar Rifle with number FALCA 1762 and Pump Action Rifle with six live ammunitions were found on him.
“Upon interrogation, he said he got the pistol from his uncle and that the Lar rifle was equally brought to him by the said uncle from their village in Kachai, Kaduna state,” she said.
She also said that investigation is still on going to uncover the sources of the recovered arms.
