Kano will join the league of cities with world- class malls when Ado Bayero Mall is commissioned.
Ado Bayero Mall threatens to be the biggest shopping complex in Nigeria with a gross built area of 31,000 square meters.
The centrally air-conditioned mall with all the bells and whistles will be comparable to any modern shopping mall in major capitals of the world, its developers say.
According to its promoters- Alpine Investment Services Limited, they intend to make the mall one of the top three highest grossing shopping centers in the country as measured by sales per square meter and also promote the super regional mall as the biggest family oriented shopping and entertainment attraction in Northern Nigeria.
Currently at 80percent completion stage, Ado Bayero Mall is sited in a well balanced neighborhood mix of commercial and residential properties, located near major access roads such as the Zaria –Kaduna- Abuja Highways, adjacent to major landmarks such as the Kano Trade Fair Complex and the historic Kano Zoo on Zoo road. This high-profile location guarantees easy access and visibility for all tenants and shoppers. It is also expected to offer specialist facilities to department stores, banks, fast food outlets & restaurants, salons and any other tenant with specific needs.
Already, the promoters say the mall has signed up two major international shopping retailers- Shoprite & Game, a large modern indoor six i-screen cinema operated by Film House Cinemas.
The mall is expected to provide a broad range of other offerings including restaurants and media stores. As a family oriented relaxation center, it will also cater for an indoor play area for young children in addition to its seventy customizable shop spaces and ample parking for over 1,000 automobiles.
The opening of the Ado Bayero Mall will, without doubt boost the commercial, economic and social life of Kano State. It will further consolidate Kano state’s ranking as Nigeria’s second largest economy as confirmed by global investment banking firm- Renaissance Capital in their May 2013 report titled “Nigeria Unveiled”.
As host state to this large modern retail shopping mall, Kano is holding true to its antecedents as a major commercial hub dating back to the days of trans-saharan trade.
Apart from direct employment generation for thousands of residents by the retail outfits in the mall, the centre will create opportunities for backward integration for local farmers and industries with a ready market for their products.
With the Ado Bayero Mall set to open for business in the last quarter of 2013, it will put Kano on the global retail shopping and entertainment map with catalytic effect on tourism in the state.
