Seven suspected Boko Haram members arrested in Kano

SEVEN suspected Boko Haram insurgents were yesterday arrested by the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kano.

The troops also destroyed two bomb-making factories in Farawa and Sheka quarters, where dangerous weapons were intercepted, in the state capital.

JTF spokesman, captain Ikedichi Iweha, who confirmed the incidents, said no life was lost in the operations.

Captain Iweha listed the items recovered from the hideouts as AK 47 rifles, 46 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) of different makes and other bomb making materials.

A building suspected to be a bomb factory in which weapons were found was demolished. Four women, believed to be the wives of some of the suspects, were rescued.

A number of communication gadgets, including 32 Motorola communicator handsets, 52 phone batteries, wires for priming suicide vehicles and laptops, were reportedly seized by the JTF operatives.

Commenting on the dawn raids, Captain Iweha said two bomb factories were demolished after the explosives found in them had been evacuated.

He said the raids were part of JTF’s routine assignment to free Kano from the grip of terrorists.

According to him, the troops would continue to intensify their raids as part of measures to track down suspected Boko Haram members who have been terrorising innocent citizens.

Security was strengthened in Kano following the attacks in Baga, Borno State and Ringim, the home town of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Hafiz Ringim, in Jigawa State.
