Police arrest Olumegbon, others for Lagos fracas

The Lagos State Police Command  has arrested Olumegbon of Ajah, Fatai Lawal, over a clash on a football field which left about six youths killed and others injured on Sunday.

PUNCH Metro had reported that there was a clash between Ilaje youths, Ajah youths and loyalists of Olumegbon.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Olumegbon was arrested for allegedly harbouring some of the youths involved in the clash.

It was learnt that policemen stormed Olumegbon's palace and conducted a thorough search after which he was arrested.

A source, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, "On Monday, about 13 police patrol vehicles stormed Olumegbon's palace and searched the whole palace following a tip off that some of the youths involved in Sunday's fracas were hiding in his palace.

"The policemen were about 50 in number because his loyalists would have prevented them from arresting him if the policemen were not many in number. No suspect was found in his palace but Olumegbon has been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja and investigations are ongoing."

It was learnt that policemen embarked on raids and had arrested some other suspects.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed that  Fatai was arrested on Sunday, saying, "He has been released though. We had a meeting and other stakeholders over peace in Ajah."
