Adoyi Ali: Shameless governors and their dirty linens

The Nigerian political arena is undoubtedly a charade and caricature of any democratic setup around the world. This, I believe cannot be disputed, not even in hundred years to come. This statement underscores the level of dishonesty and mediocrity that have taken over the government and all its institutions. It’s clear that the country has become so inflexible, hence coming out of the present graveyard of corruption and extreme confusion has now become a major challenge.

Nigeria is a country that is struggling out of many political fusses, a country with many troubles, yet creating more for itself and the coming generation. One wonders when these problems would be over. The situation on ground is extremely a hopeless one, hence nobody believes in the country any more. This is a country that is still struggling with power in the 21st century; a country struggling with basic infrastructures that are no problems anywhere in the world; a country where unemployment rate continues to rise astronomically. For this reason, the growing discontent among Nigerian youth is unquantifiable, as they no longer believe in their leaders. They no longer cheer when their president addresses them; they no longer feel at home with the address of their governors and representatives at various levels. They now believe the ‘negative’ when a leader stresses on the positive, even in the most reassuring and suiting circumstances. The game has gone beyond what these architects of confusion can control. It appears they are all heading towards self-destruction.

It is sidesplitting for a country to have the set of people who parade themselves as the nations’ governors. It’s greatly offensive even to the mind to have people with such corrupt minds control this country. The injuries we all suffer today can only be blamed on some selfish individuals who have continued to plot against the people they are to protect on a daily basis.

The recent development over the leadership of the governor’s forum has given me another impression about the few of them I had some little respect for. Even when I do not know which angle to take as it stands at the moment, I have noticed that many of these governors have decided to sell our nation. However, while selling the nation, they betray themselves and they continue to abuse their individual characters. If these governors can begin to accuse one another of manipulation in just an election that was to determine the leadership of their forum, then there is obviously no hope in 2015. Why then are we thinking of a credible election in 2015 when the governors themselves fight to manipulate an election where only 35 people participated. How would they have manipulated such an open-secret ballot election? Jang and his cohort should be ashamed of raising unnecessary dust after such an election. Frankly, how many people would have believed their claims anyways? First, they demanded that the present executive be dissolved; secondly, they all came to terms on the decision to have the election preside over by a neutral person. There was no protest before the election. There was no sign of protest even after the election, until the counting was made and it became crystal-clear to the anti-Amaechi Governors that victory didn’t swing their way. The same people, who spelt the rule, said the rules were broken. They said the election was manipulated but failed to say how. The question is; who manipulated the election? In a situation where you have corrupt and insincere leaders, this is what you get. There is nothing truthful about their action. Everything is planned. The activities that happened before the election ,where about 18 governors signed in support of Jang clearly show the desperation of these guys who call themselves governors. I couldn’t stop shedding some tears for my dear country. Just imagine the corruption and the insincerity in all the states governed by these set of leaders. Just imagine how the same Akpabio who claims to be a transparent leader, is now selling his soul to treachery. If he can manipulate his fellow governors even at this stage, then something is still wrong with Akwa-Ibom. It means that the story we hear about his state is only a façade’. Maybe, we may need some verification. Who knows whether Akwa Ibom state in itself has been manipulated over the years? Our leaders are most of the time not who they say they are.

Now that Amaechi’s popularity has overshadowed even that of the presidency, the PDP is now of the opinion that the two camps go their separate ways since they cannot agree. Again, when has such decision become an all-important one for the presidency and the PDP? What if Jang had won effortlessly; would they have asked this question? Even with the grounding of Amaechi-Rivers’ Aircraft, the PDP and the Presidency never said Amaechi was being punished for anti-party activities, they claimed the Aircraft was not registered. Let them tell Nigerians today that the Rivers state Aircraft that was grounded was because of its unregistered status. My God, Nigeria is finished.

It’s obvious, the Nigerian ruling party, PDP is a party made up people of like-selfish minds, only interested in selling our freedom. You must never question the policy and agenda of the party, because if you do, you will find yourself in hell. Just like I don’t believe in the PDP, so I don’t believe in any political party in this country. They are all bunch of selfish old men who are only interested in destroying this country. Imagine a man of Jang’s age saying what even a child of 5 years cannot say. One wonders the kind of examples they are trying to set for this generation and the generation unborn. I’m beginning to agree with my friend who once said that we are dead in Nigeria. You can’t claim to be alive when you are being ruled by some dead people. Our leaders are politically dead, even the most reliable of them. Keep washing your dirty Agbada in public; God dey see una!
