48hrs after kidnap: Boko Haram reportedly change Monguno’s location






Reports from a top security chief in Borno say Shettima Ali Monguno has been moved to a Boko Haram cell in Old-Marki, a border town in Borno State.
The official, involved in efforts to locate and free the nonagenarian, stated this to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday evening.
He said intelligence available to Nigerian security officials indicate that Mr. Monguno was kidnapped by the Boko Haram, who are constantly changing location to ensure they are not tracked.
Mr. Monguno, Nigeria’s first petroleum minister, was kidnapped on Friday afternoon after the Jumat prayer in Maiduguri.
His abductors have reportedly made an undisclosed ransom demand, in a communication with the family on Friday.
Mr. Monguno’s family, the Borno Government, the Federal Government, and others have condemned the kidnap and appealed to the kidnappers to release him.
Kidnapping for ransom by the Boko Haram has been on the increase in Borno.
