Man excretes 63 wraps of drugs at Lagos airport

    
A 40-year-old Nigerian, based in Italy has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for allegedly trafficking drugs.

The spokesman for the NDLEA, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, who made the announcement on Thursday in a statement in Lagos said that the suspect was arrested at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Ofoyeju said that the suspect was found to have swallowed 63 wraps of substances that tested positive to cocaine weighing 1.030kg while trying to board an Alitalia flight.

Ofoyeju said, ”The suspect was arrested with the assistance of scanning machines.

“While under observation, he excreted a total of 63 wraps of powdery substances weighing 1.030kg that tested positive to cocaine.

“The suspect claimed in his statement that he came to Nigeria in search of his wife but decided to smuggle cocaine because he was broke.

“He claimed that some people promised to pay him $4,000 (about N640,000) in addition to all travel expenses.

“He is currently under investigation and will be charged to court soon.”
