‘I Don’t Mind Being A Messenger In PDP’ – Bafarawa

 
A former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said he is ready to do anything to ensure the success of his new party.

Mr. Bafarawa who led a delegation of his supporters to the on a courtesy call to the National Chairman of the PDP, Ahmed Mu’azu, said he will do everything possible to help Mr. Mu’azu succeed.



“We are going to help you, even if I am going to be a messenger, to succeed. I am ready to do everything because your success is our success,” Mr. Bafarawa said at the National Secretariat of the PDP in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said he joined the PDP to help Nigeria’s development.

“I did not join PDP because it is a ruling party, I didn’t join because I want an appointment. But I joined to build a formidable support for our country,” he said.

The former governor told Mr. Mu’azu that the easiest way to rebuild the PDP is to stick to the manifesto and constitution of the party.

“If we abide by the manifesto and the Constitution of the party we will solve all the problems of the party,” he said.

Mr. Bafarawa said Mr. Jonathan should come to Sokoto because “the people there want him to come and see the PDP. We don’t want any representative. He must come personally”.

Bafarawa lambasts APC

Mr. Bafarawa gave additional insight as to why he left the APC, saying the opposition party is not serious. He alleged that the leadership of the APC is a failure that operates outside the constitution of the party.

He said over six months after its registration; the APC is yet to register even a single person as a member of the party. Mr. Bafarawa said the only definite criterion of being a member of a political party is to have a membership card of the party.

“As far as I’m concerned, there is no member of the APC in this country. This is because you cannot be a member of any political party without membership card. For the last six months that the party was formed up till now, nobody has a membership card,” he said.

The APC has said it would embark on membership registration from February 5.

Mr. Bafarawa asked Mr. Mu’azu to learn from the mistake of the APC and ensure that all bonafide members of the PDP across the country are provided with membership cards.

“We want you to provide us with membership cards in Sokoto in the next one week so that you will see that the party is alive in the country and the state,” he added.

In his brief remarks, Mr. Mu’azu thanked the delegation for the visit. He also promised Mr. Bafarawa that membership cards will be made available to him and his teeming supporters very soon.

Mr. Bafarawa and a former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, decamped to the PDP after they accused the APC of handing over its structures in their states to the incumbent governors. The incumbent governors recently joined the party from the PDP.
