Boko Haram can lead to Nigeria’s disintegration – Northern Christians

The Christian Association of Nigeria on Wednesday warned that the activities of the Boko Haram sect, which has caused an increase in insecurity in the northern part of the country, could lead to the disintegration, if it continues unchecked.

The religious body representing Christians in the 19 northern states and Abuja, said the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration must be courageous enough to unveil the sponsors and financiers of the dreaded sect.

The association’s Director of Research, Strategy and Planning, Mr. Sunday Oibe, who spoke on the increasing wave of attacks by the sect in the North-East stressed that the time had come for the Federal Government to expose those sponsoring and equipping the insurgents with arms and ammunition.

Oibe expressed concerns that the sect’s members have declined to dialogue with the Committee set up by the Government, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, thus making the committee’s work a failure.

Oibe said, “If they think it is President Goodluck Jonathan they are fighting, they are wrong because, it is the entire Nigeria that is now being threatened.

“That is why all good people and those who love this country must come together and condemn and also expose them.”

He lamented the fact that the Committee set up by the President to find a way to bring members of the sect to a roundtable, has failed.

He said, “It was a waste of tax payers money and the nation’s resources.

“The only way to bring an end to the sect’s activities, is to dislodge them from wherever they are based.

“We said it loud and clear from the beginning that the setting up of the committee was just a mere waste of tax payers money. They have nothing to offer.”
