Security operatives occupy UNN, ESUT, lecturers shun classrooms
Plain clothes police officers were on Monday noticed within the two campuses of University of Nigeria.
THE PUNCH learnt that the security operatives took strategic positions within and outside the Enugu and Nsukka campuses of UNN as early as 7am.
Though there was no form of protests from lecturers or students, our correspondent observed the presence of police officers on the two UNN campuses even at 4pm.
“About 200 students were seen moving around the Nsukka campus, while lecturers trickled in and out seeking for the register to sign,” said a senior lecturer in the institution.
The lecturer added, “Nothing happened today, but we suspect there could be a full house on December 4, 2013, the deadline given by the minister for lecturers to resume.”
The situation seemed heightened at the permanent site of Enugu State University of Technology in Agbani area.
Soldiers were seen moving around the ESUT campus, while some of them mounted a guard at the vice chancellor’s office.
