Tukur scutling rebel govs’ meeting with Jonathan -New PDP

The New Peoples Democratic Party has accused the National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, of being unhappy with the planned meeting between the aggrieved governors of the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan.

The meeting between the governors and the President was billed for Sunday night in Abuja.

Jonathan had cancelled the meeting on his arrival from London, citing ill health and promised that the meeting would still hold within the week.

Before the sudden cancellation of the meeting, some of the governors had arrived in Abuja, hopping that the meeting would hold.

The seven aggrieved governors are Rabiu Kwankwanso(Kano), Aliyu Wamakko(Sokoto), Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers), Sule Lamido(Jigawa), Aliyu Babangida(Niger), Abdulfatai Ahmed(Kwara ) and Murtala Nyako(Adamawa).

However, in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the New PDP, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, in Abuja on Sunday, the faction called on the leaders of the party to quickly intervene in the crisis rocking the party.

He said the suspension of four key members of the party by the Tukur-led National Working Committee was aimed at further aggravating the crisis in the party.

The suspended four men are Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, erstwhile National Chairman of PDP; Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the incumbent National Secretary of PDP; Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, immediate National Deputy Chairman of the party; and National Vice-Chairman, North West, Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure.
