The proposed nationwide ban on okada

State governments across the country and the Federal Capital Territory have been asked to ban the use of motorcycle as means of public transportation.

In a communiqué issued yesterday in Abuja at the end of the 13th Council meeting on transport held in Lagos, participants agreed that the Nigeria Inland Waterways Agency should establish an office at Alape in Ilaje local council of Ondo State.

This gesture, according to the communiqué, was to strengthen operations of the agency and ensure safety of the waterways.

Onlytruth: I hope this is a joke  or  they should show us their job plan for the youths.

Whoever is even thinking of this idea should be blamed for the next wave of armed robberies and kidnappings.

Greatgod2012: Some of these okada riders are graduates o. The government refused to provide employment, and so the courageous few who took to Okada riding to get busy until a better opportunity surfaces are about to be frustrated . In the long run, the society will pay dearly for it in form of robbery and other forms of criminal activities.

God dey watch una.

Chima agblajob: Apart from crime which has been facilitated by okada use, millions of Nigerians are dead today and many are disabled as a result of okada accidents. Progressive — minded state governors have since banned the use of commercial motorcycles in their major cities. Only a few governors still permit it in their major cities, as if no better alternatives exist. Okada should be used as a means of public transportation only in remote villages of Nigeria.
