Ondo to sanction principals for admitting external candidates

Ondo State Government has vowed to sanction principals involved in admitting external candidates at the SSS III levels, even as it restates the ban on students’ use of mobile phones during school hours.

Commissioner for Education in the state, Mr. Jide Adejuyigbe, gave the warning while briefing a stakeholder meeting in Akure on Tuesday.

He said only students who passed the joint promotion examination organised for SSII students should be allowed to register at the SSSIII class.

He said, “The joint promotion examination conducted by the state government for SSII students was meant to eradicate examination malpractices and produce quality students that will sit for WAEC and NECO examinations in SSIII.

“The government will sanction any principal or proprietor that registers external candidates in his school. The state government has concluded plans to pay the WAEC registration fees only for candidates that are promoted to SSIII in public secondary schools.”

Adejuyigbe also reiterated the ban on the use of mobile phones by students during school hours, just as he enjoined principals to enforce the punctuality rules for teachers and students.

Chairman of the Board for the State Teaching Service Commission, Hon. Bakita Bello, in his remarks, called on principals and teachers to redouble their efforts toward developing education in their states.
