Lagos arraigns 17 Boko Haram suspects, SSS bars journalists

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday arraigned 17 suspected members of the Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram, before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The arraignment had earlier been stalled on October 25 because five of the accused persons had no lawyer standing for them.

On Wednesday, however, it was realised that Justice Musa Kurya, before whom the accused were brought at the last proceedings, had withdrawn from the case.

The arraignment eventually took place before Justice Ibrahim Buba.

Like on October 25, men of the State Security Service prevented journalists from covering the Wednesday’s proceedings.

However, it was learnt that the charges were read to the accused in English Language and interpreted to them in Hausa.

All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the seven counts of terrorism acts, possession of prohibitted firearms and ammunition which were  preferred against them.

Justice Buba, after the arraignment, ordered the accused to remain in prison and adjourned till December 3 for further proceedings.
