Jonathan backs curricula reforms in law

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday  expressed support for the curricula reforms embarked on by the Council on Legal Education in law faculties across the country.

The curricula reforms are expected to bring legal education at par with global standards.

In an address at an event to mark the 50th anniversary of the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja, the President also pledged to strengthen infrastructural facilities in the six campuses of the Nigerian Law School.

The President, who was represented by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, SAN,

said ongoing works in the campuses would enhance the standard of legal education in the country.

He commended lawyers for their contributions to constitutional development and justice administration in the country.

In her address, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Mukhtar, called for regular evaluation of legal education in Nigeria to enhance the overall quality of the country’s justice system.

Also speaking at the event, the outgoing Director-General of the Nigeria Law School, Dr Tahir Mamman, expressed regrets that the Law School was unable to access intervention funds by donor agencies.

He blamed the development for the poor infrastructure in the various campuses of the Law School.
