Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Lamido Sanusi has said that the apex bank and the Ministry of Finance will sustain the ongoing structural reforms in the economy.
Sanusi said this 4th founders’ day and 1st convocation ceremony of the Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife, where he and the Minister of Finance, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala been simultaneously conferred with honourary degrees by the governing council of the institution.
The University awarded honourary doctorate degree in Economics to Sanusi and of Doctor of Science in Accounting to Okonjo-Iweala. In his remarks, Sanusi said that the institution to awards to him and the Minister is a good reflection of the realization by Nigerians of the importance of managing the economy and keeping it strong for all of us.
“I will also say that while we both recognize that the Gross Domestic Product growth, inflation, exchange rates and fiscal deficits are under control, we will like to say that we will have to continue pursuing the structural reforms that will ensure that these growths translate into improvements in the life of the average man.” Okonjo-Iweala on her part said that said that the Federal Government is deeply committed to tackling the challenges facing tertiary education in the country.
“The government knows that it needs to do more as the years pass by, but I am assuring that the political will to support the improvement of tertiary education in this country is very high in the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
