Suspected killer of magistrate remanded in custody

    
An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Isabo on Friday ordered a 21-year-old steward, David Idah, be remanded for allegedly killing his employer.

The Prosecutor, Insp Banji Sangotokun, told the court that Idah killed Mrs Olufunmilayo Timeyin, a 65-year -old magistrate, using a matchet.

He stated that the offence was committed on March 28 at about 3pm at block 11, Flat 6 at Laderin Housing Estate, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Sangotokun said the offence was contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2008.

Chief Magistrate Anthony Araba ordered that Idah be remanded pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Idah was arrested by the police on March 28 after he had allegedly killed Timeyin.

Idah, who was said to have been sacked by Timeyin over theft of her jewelry, reportedly returned on March 28 and killed his boss after scaling the fence of the building.

He was apprehended by residents and later handed over to the police.
