Monarch warns community youths against supporting Fayose
The Onijan of Ijan Ekiti, Oba Samuel Fadahunsi, and his chiefs have warned some youths of the town against supporting former Governor Ayo Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the June 21 governorship election.
The monarch and his chief gave the warning in a statement issued and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
The monarch was reacting to the endorsement of the former governor by some youths within the town. The monarch said that such endorsement was an insult on the entire people of the town.
They warned PDP youths in the town against endorsing Fayose on behalf of the entire people of the town saying the people of the town would not tolerate such desperate act from anybody.
The statement read, “There is was no way Ijan people would support Fayose on the account of the humiliation melted to the Onijan and hi planned dethronement. We will encourage the youths and other PDP members to follow their hearts in their political choice.
“The PDP still have time to pick another candidate other than Fayose if they want Ijan-Ekiti people to support their party.”
According to the statement, the monarch and other leaders in the town have agreed that no politician should endorsed Fayose until the mysteries surrounding the brutal killing of former World Bank Consultant, Dr. Ayodeji Daramola, is settled.
Daramola, who was a governorship aspirant in the state was killed at his residence on August 14, 2006 by some gunmen. The killing led to attacks on some notable PDP members in the town.
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ekiti State, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, has described the huge population of unemployed youths in the state as a time bomb.
He said this at Igede Ekiti on Friday during his campaign saying about 450,000 youths in the state were not gainfully employed out of 2.5 million people living in Ekiti State.
He said unemployment and insecurity were parts of the signs of a failed said but he said that he would do everything to ensure that the situation was reversed if elected.
He said, “I will do what will make the people happy and find solutions to the youth unemployment in the state, while elderly people need to be happy and I will not betray the confidence reposed in me by Ekiti people.
“Our youths are becoming frustrated by the day and if the menace is not addressed, we are looking for trouble.”
