Kwara Assembly suspends lawmaker for third time
The Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended a member representing Malete/Ipaiye-Oloru Constituency, Alhaji Iliasu Ibrahim, over an alleged attempted murder of a member of the House.
Our correspondent reports that this is the third time the lawmaker was being suspended in less than three years in the life-time of the current House of Assembly.
Ibrahim is among the only two lawmakers from Peoples Democratic Party that did not defect to the All Progressives Congress with 19 other lawmakers and the Speaker, Mr. Razak Atunwa.
The suspended lawmaker was indicted by the House Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Judiciary in its report presented to the House during Wednesday plenary for his alleged refusal to write a letter of apology to Alhaji Yussuf Tanke, amother lawmaker who is now of the APC.
Ibrahim had resumed last month and was expected to tender the apology letter within seven days.
Atunwa announced his current suspension after the House had adopted the report of the Committee on the matter.
The Speaker directed Ibrahim to commence another three months suspension from Wednesday, 9 April 2014 without pay.
He also directed Ibrahim to tender a written apology to Tanke before the expiration of his three months suspension. He stated that this was the resolution of the House on December 18, 2013.
Atunwa also warned that the law maker would continue in the suspension until he complies with the directive of the House.
