The Osun State Government has warned leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state against using their party’s primary election coming up on Saturday to cause violence.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sunday Akere, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Thursday.
Four PDP governorship aspirants -former Governor Isiaka Adeleke, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi and Mr. Wole Oke- are contesting the sole governorship ticket of the PDP on Saturday, April 5.
The state government position coincided with the statement of the opposition party’s Chairman, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, warning the ruling All Progressives Congress against causing violence during the party’s primary.
The commissioner cautioned residents of the state to steer clear of venues of PDP meetings and primaries in order not to fall victims of violence while also calling on the peace loving people of the state to “be vigilant of these violence-prone politicians.”
He said, “The state has been experiencing peace and harmony for over three years of the Rauf Aregbesola led administration and we are calling on the security operatives not to allow the PDP truncate the peace the people of the state have been enjoying over the years.
”If the present lack of decorum, decency and civility is allowed to continue unchecked in the name of politicking, the masses would be at the receiving end. We are calling on the PDP leadership to put their house in order and not to jeopardise the peace Osun people have been enjoying including members of the party.”
Olaoluwa said the APC, which he described as a party of hoodlums, were planning to cause confusion during the primary, saying the ruling party wanted to profit from such orchestrated confusion.
