APC crisis: NASS members, Amosun reconcile

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and National Assembly members of the All Progressives Congress in the state may have reached a truce over the lingering crisis rocking the party.

Amosun and the National Assembly members met at the Gateway Hall, Abeokuta, where the Chairman of the APC State Registration Supervisory Committee, Mr. Adeniyi Fabikun, unveiled the guidelines for membership registration holding on Wednesday, February 5 and Monday, February 10.

Our correspondent gathered that the truce reached by the warring camps in the Ogun APC, followed the reconciliatory meetings facilitated by two prominent traditional rulers, including the Awujale and the paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.

Although the National Leader of the party and former governor, Olusegun Osoba, did not attend the meeting, the state Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun, Senators Adegbenga Kaka, Akin Odunsi and Gbenga Obadara, said to be in Osoba’s house, were present.

Also, the House of Representatives members believed to be in Osoba’s camp attended the meeting. The federal lawmakers, included Segun Williams, Olumide Osoba, Adekunle Adeyemi, Kehinde Odeneye, Bukunola Buraimoh, Babatunde Ogunola and Abiodun Abudu-Balogun.

While speaking, Amosun said he was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting and assured that the registration of party members would be without hitches.

He also described the meeting as symbolic, as it held on the 38th anniversary of the creation of the state.

Amosun, who acknowledged Osoba as the leader of the party, disclosed he had consulted with the former governor on the three additional members to be included in the SRSC.

“Our party has a history. We have ways of resolving issues. Please, let us dwell on the things that will unite us and shun things that will create confusion. I’m sure everybody will be happy with the way we conduct our affairs.

Meanwhile, apparently still smarting from his perceived unfavourable media coverage of the ongoing crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, declared ‘war’ on journalists in the state.

Journalists, who had waited for over an hour at the Gateway Hall, venue of the meeting between the governor, National Assembly members and other stakeholders, were taken aback when Amosun told them that he had drawn the battleline with them over the series of fabricated stories they had been writing about his role in the APC crisis.
