Cabinet: APC sends nominees list to Ajimobi
Chairman of All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Akin Oke, on Monday confirmed that the party had forwarded the list of nominees for commissioners and special advisers to Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent in Ibadan, Oke said the party had sent a list of nominees from the 33 local governments in the state and at least from three other rival parties to the governor last week.
“We have already done our job by sending the list to the governor. The list includes names of nominees from our party, all the 33 local government areas of the state, All Nigeria Peoples Party and Congress for Progressive Change. The list was sent last week,” Oke said.
Ajimobi had on September 23 dissolved the cabinet, saying that the administration needed new life. The governor also said that it was important to give other people the opportunity to serve, promising that the new cabinet members would be made known soon. About a month after, he told journalists in Ibadan that he was waiting for the APC to send nominees names to him.
A source from the governor’s house on Monday told our correspondent that the list had been sent to the House of Assembly for confirmation.
“The party sent the list last week and the governor had already sent it to the house. The members will seat and deliberate on it before the governor will make it public,” said the source, who preferred anonymity because he is not authorised to speak on the matter.
The source also hinted that a few of those who served in the last cabinet would make a return.
“A few of them will return but I doubt if they will retain their former portfolio. But that will be subject to their confirmation by the State House of Assembly. If they did well in their first coming, they would get the nod but if they are found wanting, the house could decide to strike their names off the list,” said the source.
