The Adamawa state government said the killings may have occurred in Borno state
Military authorities and the Adamawa state government have refuted media report that 30 people were killed in the north eastern state over the weekend.
Earlier reports said a bridegroom, family members and friends were among 30 persons killed in an attack by insurgents believed to be members of Boko Haram in Michika local government area of Adamawa State.
The victims, eye witnesses reportedly said, were returning from a wedding Fatiha in Michika town when they ran into an ambush laid by the insurgents.
The incident, it was learnt, happened along Bama- Banki -Firgi highway.
But the commander of Special Military Operation Unit Mubi, in Adamawa State, Lt-Colonel Martins Beyidi Gurama, said the reports were untrue.
“There was no attack in Michika. The information is incorrect,” Colonel Beyidi said on Sunday.
The Adamawa state government also denied that the attack occurred in the state, describing the report as false and unfounded.
Sajoh Ahmed, the Director of press and public Affairs to Governor Murtala Nyako, said the true situation is that some Adamawa indigenes from Michika Local government went for a wedding Fatiha in neighbouring Borno state and were attacked at Firgu village in Borno.
He said the incident did not happen in Adamawa State, only that her indigenes were involved in the attack.
Mr Sajoh said the state government hoped the reports were not sponsored in order to extend emergency rule in Adamawa State.
