Aregbesola laments B’Haram’s atrocities as Osun marks Hijrah

Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has described the  increasing atrocities of the Boko Haram sect as contradictory to the teachings  of Islam.

Making an allusion to the dreaded sect, he  said that the dawn of Hijrah 1435 offered a great opportunity for those involved in causing pains and sorrow to others to turn a new leaf to escape the wrath of Allah.

The governor said this in Osogbo on Monday at a ceremony to celebrate Hijrah, the begining of a new Islamic year.  The state had declared Monday a public holiday in the state.

Hijrah is the migration of Prophet Muhammed from Mecca to Medina  1,435 years ago.

The new year was ushered in with a ceremony on Sunday night where there was colourful display of fireworks.

He said that all the atrocities being perpetrated by the violent Islamic sect were at variance with the teaching of Quran.

He said, “A tiny minority has emerged in Islam, who by their actions, has profaned Allah and portrays Islam as a religion of violence.”
