Terrorism, Nigeria’s major contemporary challenge – GOC

The General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan,

Maj.-Gen. Ahmed Jubrin, has said terrorism is the major

contemporary challenge facing the country.

He said it was imperative to train soldiers so that they could adequately

combat insurgency.

He spoke to journalists during the Division’s inter-brigade warrant

officers and senior non-commissioned officers competition in Ilorin on

Monday.

He added that it was needful for security operatives to frontally

confront insecurity.

He said, “Terrorism is mainly the contemporary challenges facing the nation.

For our soldiers to be up and doing and up to the task in fighting

terrorism they had to prepare. And preparation is anchored on

training. This is a very important part of the training, preparing

them in dealing with contemporary security challenges.

“It is important for us to know that the challenges the country is

facing are obvious and the need for us to rise to the occasion to deal

with the situation is very clear.”
