The Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the party is dead in the South-West, saying it is capable of springing surprises in the zone in 2015.
The National Auditor of the party, Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju, who stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, was reacting to the claim by a former chief of the party in the zone,Chief Alani Akinde, who claimed that the PDP was already dead in the zone and that the alternative to it was the Labour Party.
While dismissing the claim, Adeyanju said the statement was false and misleading, adding that the party was preparing vigorously for the governorship elections in both Ekiti and Osun states.
Governorship elections are due in the two states in 2014.
He said many people claimed that the party was also dead in the zone before the 2011 general elections, pointing out that at the end, the PDP performed very well to the astonishment of its enemies.
He said, “The statement is not only false but it is misleading and capable of sending a wrong signal to the members of the party in the zone and the entire country in general now that the preparations for the 2014 governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti States and the 2015 general elections are in top gear.
“I think he made the statement out of ignorance. That was exactly what they did in 2011 when they rushed out of the PDP to float the Peoples Party of Nigeria, along with their master, what happened?
“They failed woefully and shameless returned to the PDP. This time around again, they are embarking on the same venture, they have gone to the Labour Party with their master. Let us wait and see, but i cam tell you that they will fail again and again.”
