Student, 21, bags 4 years imprisonment for stealing motorcycle
The student pleaded guilty to the charge.
A Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State on Tuesday sentenced a 21-year-old student, Friday Emmanuel, to four years imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.
The presiding judge, Vincent Gwahemba, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10, 000 fine.
Mr. Gwahemba, who sentenced Emmanuel after he pleaded guilty to stealing the motorcycle, said that he gave him an option to pay a fine because he was a first time offender.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Stephen Kwaza, had told the court that Mustapha Usman of Gidan Kaji Ruga, Mararaba, reported the matter at the Sani Abacha Police Station on May 30.
He said the convict was arrested while in the process of selling an unregistered motorcycle to one Amina Sani of Gidan Kaji Ruga. He said that when Sani demanded for the particulars of the motorcycle, the convict was unable to produce them, and she alerted the police.
“When he was questioned, he told the police that he stole the motorcycle at Kuchukua, on the Keffi–Abuja Expressway on May 29.
The prosecutor said the offence of theft contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
